Rules of Golf - Rule XXXII by Charles Crombie

It can be embarrassing when you’re asked for a ruling and you start to umm & arrr.

I was out on the weekend when my playing partner got himself into a difficult lie and asked about the rules of golf in his predicament.

His ball ended up leaning against a water hazard marker separated by a few blades of grass on the side of the dam. If the marker hadn’t been there it was gone, so here lies the question.

2009 October 18
by The Old Crock

Have you ever been asked the question – what’s your excuse to play golf today? not that you really need one but if you ever need to answer it, use the “it’s for the betterment of our health!”

If I’m healthy, I can play golf…If I can play golf I’m happy… If I’m happy, do you EVER hear me whinging that I want to play golf?

If I’m not whinging, you’re happy. If your happy and I’m happy, we’re both healthy!!

Now before you start calling me a sexist! it does work both ways!

Who knows how to drive a golf ball into the Olympics other than the professionals?

Golf has finally make it back to the Olympics since it was last played in 1904. That’s a long time between drinks and about time for this great sport of ours to be recognised again BUT why give it to the professionals?

Will Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and the like be payed appearance money for turning up?

Would You Like Free Golf Tips from the Shark?

2009 October 4
by The Old Crock

I’m not so sure that Greg Norman would be giving out any free golf tips at that moment!

You can see here with Greg Norman how age wearies us in our golf swing, Though the Shark’s would be just a tad different to what the average ‘Joe’s’ would be over 22 years.

At least it’s more consistant than his latest marriage.

Instead of free golf tips, the Shark could pass on some marital advice about how to not marry someone who is as famous and rich as yourself.

Overcoming golf pressure

A Water Hazard on the Sugar Creek Country Club...

Now that the dust has settled after the dust storms moved through, I was washing the house & driveways down with the high pressure water cleaner and got thinking how similar it is to overcoming golf pressure.

You get in the situation of playing in the monthly medal or club championship etc. and the yips start before you even get the clubs out of the car or even better! your on the 15th a couple of shot ahead of the pack and you start thinking about crap! what will I say at the winners speech? how will look in the champions photo? what if I crash you burn on the last hole? and you crash and burn!

Why is it that any other day on the golf course, you’re out there relaxed, enjoying the company, feeling in the zone? But the thought of a possible outcome unsettles you.

Dust storms were frequent during the 30s; this...
Image via Wikipedia

This week has been the strangest I’ve seen ever! There has been 3 dust storms go through the state in the last week. I have never seen a dust storm before but 3 in 1 week??

Though the golf courses have been quite a few of us diehards were out there on the golf driving ranges using the elements to practice how to drive a golf ball straight playing in or with the wind. There are lots of techniques to consider when it comes to playing golf in the wind. Depending if your going into it and want to keep it as low as possible with control or across it where you either push it into the wind to hold the line or allow the wind to bring it back, it depends on each circumstance.

Knowing how to drive a golf ball straight with control or invent each shot for playing on a winding day not only could save you a lot of heartache but also put you in good stead for any other day on the golf course.

Has Nathan Green stirred up the PGA Tour dust again?

Is this Nathan Green's dust at Toronto Country Golf Club NSW?

Is this Nathan Green's dust at Toronto Country Golf Club NSW?

As Nathan Green enjoys the fruits of his success on the PGA Tour the dust is still settling here at his local course, Toronto Country Golf Club NSW Australia where brother Darren Green is the Club Professional.

This is the result of 90km + winds picking up the dust from the drought stricken Central Australia and dumping it hundreds of kilometers away.

There weren’t too many (any) golfers braving the elements.

Are you constantly being told how to grip a golf club?

2009 September 19

Are you constantly told by the usual A grade golf expert ‘how to grip a golf club…’ or ‘why you are…’ that you start to question it?

You all have lazy days and lazy grip days where you just can’t feel the club the way you’re used to. Was that today? if it was, I bet it showed. And worst of all, the last thing you needed was a playing partner who just could not help but analyze every shot to get a point over.

PLAY YOUR OWN GAME! are your thoughts, but as much as I hate to say it, the A grade expert was probably right!

So, this is what you were told you were doing: read more…
